OUR MLAs

British Columbians deserve a government that has integrity, works hard and knows how to manage taxpayers’ money effectively. I believe that our government has the necessary skills, competencies and experience to lead British Columbia out of the current difficult economic conditions to a more positive future.

The issue in this election is to decide who is really best to lead British Columbia through the next four years. The BC Liberal Team, led by Premier Christy Clark, has a strong proven record in managing the economy and the provincial finances. Our government also has a proven record in health care, education, and services to families, children, and seniors. I’m proud to be part of a team of dedicated, reliable servant leaders working for all British Columbians.

It has been my privilege to serve as your MLA for the past 14 years and I am proud of my record of service and leadership. Abbotsford is a rapidly growing community with some unique challenges and opportunities. I believe I have the experience, energy and commitment to continue to work hard for the needs of the citizens of Abbotsford South.

I believe the best way that we can support families is by creating an economic climate that supports job creation, not restricts it. Whether it’s agriculture, manufacturing, food processing or supporting small business – all sectors important to Abbotsford South, we need to keep taxes low and provide strong, competent and stable leadership.

I am strongly committed to our government’s financial goal of a balanced budget. I am committed to continuing to advocate for Criminal Code Amendments to support police and improve public safety in our community.

In all my work, I have acted by listening first, then by building consensus and finding solutions. I’m not afraid to make decisions and take responsibility for the outcomes. I focus on action and doing the job that needs to be done rather than just talking about it.

I have a proven record of working collaboratively with the Mayor and City Council, MP Ed Fast and other MLAs. I believe it is important for the MLA to work closely with all community and social services agencies, the Abbotsford Board of Education, the Chamber of Commerce, the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association and the Fraser Health Authority. I have done that.

During my years in government I have demonstrated an ability to deal with unprecedented issues such as Avian Influenza and BSE in agriculture and serious gun and gang violence in our community and the province.

We all know that the economy is going through a difficult time. I think people understand that the road to the future is not paved with easy answers but with a need for hard work and dedication. We’ve gone through tough times before and have come through even stronger. We will do that again by working together.

The next few years will require a government that has a record of leadership, has demonstrated skills in making tough decisions and a willingness to invest in the future for our children and grandchildren.
